Powered by a\u00a0<a title=\"Straight-six engine\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Straight-six_engine\">straight-six engine<\/a>, it was produced from 1967 until 1972, eventually being phased out in favour of the\u00a0<a title=\"Aston Martin V8\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aston_Martin_V8\">Aston Martin V8<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a larger coup\u00e9 than the DB6, with four full sized seats, but was powered by the same 4.0\u00a0L engine as the previous car. Claimed engine output was 280\u00a0bhp (209\u00a0kW; 284\u00a0PS),<sup id=\"cite_ref-:0_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aston_Martin_DBS#cite_note-:0-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-:1_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aston_Martin_DBS#cite_note-:1-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0but a\u00a0<i>vantage<\/i>\u00a0engine option used Italian made Weber carburettors, increasing output to an advertised 325\u00a0bhp (242\u00a0kW; 330\u00a0PS).<sup id=\"cite_ref-market_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aston_Martin_DBS#cite_note-market-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In 1966,\u00a0<a title=\"Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carrozzeria_Touring_Superleggera\">Touring<\/a>\u00a0of Milan was commissioned to design the DB6 replacement and produced two prototypes before the design house went out of business.\u00a0<a title=\"William Towns\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Towns\">William Towns<\/a>\u00a0was then hastily brought in to design the new car.<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aston_Martin_DBS#cite_note-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The DBS was intended to have a more &#8220;modern&#8221; look than the previous series of Aston models (the DB4 through DB6), and it incorporated a fastback style rear end and squared off front grille, atypical of Astons at the time, but very much then in vogue in automotive design circles of the late sixties. Trademark Aston design features, such as a bonnet scoop, knock off wire wheels, and side air vents with stainless steel brightwork were however retained.
